Emmanuel Kelly has released a stellar new single – and if you’re going to Coldplay’s massive shows in Melbourne and Sydney, you’ll have the chance to hear it live.

The rising singer-songwriter is supporting the UK pop-rock icons on the local leg of their world tour, armed with songs like the newly released “Right From the Start.”

Kelly’s new single follows “My Sky,” released in January, which has become one of the top 30 most streamed songs by an Australian artist on Spotify in 2024.

Befitting the title, “Right From the Very Start” finds Kelly reflecting on his upbringing.

He was rescued from a war zone in Iraq as a child and raised in Australia by humanitarian Moira Kelly, where he discovered his passion for music. He then featured on The X Factor Australia and has since used his platform to inspire others, with a mission of sharing stories of resilience and self-empowerment.

“The orphanage was the only life I knew. Then one day I overheard a nun saying that someone was coming to get me and my brother to take us to a new home. I didn’t know if it was true. All I could do was hope,” Kelly says.

“I sat waiting on a window ledge for days with a song in my head that I’d written as a gift for the coming lady. It only had one lyric line, “Welcome, welcome, Aunty,” but when the woman who I now call Mum arrived, I sang it at the top of my lungs. And what I remember most is the way it made her smile.”

“Right From the Very Start” is slated to be part of a wider EP, which Apple Music states Kelly will release at the end of October.
