This comes after lilbubblegum opened for Baby Gravy earlier this year. He was also featured in Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s ‘Future of Music’ series, highlighting him as one of the most exciting artists from Australia and New Zealand.
“lilbubblegum has been out-performing your favourite rappers on streaming for a long time. After starting out in SoundCloud’s underground scene making beats on his phone, the teen rapper from Te Atatu is now selling out venues across the United States,” we praised.
“At the 2023 Rolling Stone Aotearoa Awards, the up-and-coming rapper was nominated for Best Single for the gripping “af1”, a song blessed with a deliriously jazzy beat that draws you in for repeat listens. (Seriously, try to play “af1” just one time.) From Yung Gravy to Rico Nasty, bigger and bigger international names are now seeking out lilbubblegum’s innate talent.”
The 20-year-old artist from West Auckland is one of New Zealand’s top-streaming rappers, with over 369 million Spotify streams and 224 million YouTube views.
After his breakout single “guap” in 2020, Lil Bubblegum became a key figure in the ‘aesthetic rap’ scene, blending moody SoundCloud rap with retro visuals.
In 2022, he signed with Listen2TheKids (Interscope) and has since collaborated with Yung Gravy, Rico Nasty, and Jasiah.
