Sydney-based artist Jermango Dreaming, aka Jermaine Sakr, has just dropped a preview of his upcoming project, Heaven FM.

True to his signature style, Heaven FM is set to offer immersive, laid-back tracks perfect for dancing or just chilling out. His influences blend his dad’s classic disco and ’80s pop with modern psych-pop and dance, focusing on feel-good grooves.

Jermango Dreaming’s new single, “Project 62,” really nails this style with its euphoric beats and thoughtful lyrics, all wrapped in a nostalgic haze that brings back memories of hot summer days in suburban Sydney. It mixes these memories with a touch of fondness and melancholy, reflecting on the past while looking ahead.

“Think back, and remember. Kick back, in the summer…” Sakr muses.

“It is a reflection on how a period of my life shaped the people I looked up to, my idea of my place in society and my own self worth,” he explains about “Project 62.”

“In a way I am thinking back to my early twenties and giving myself advice. It’s about being your authentic self and the challenges that may hold on relationships and goals. It’s about wanting to please everyone around you but balancing your own well being.

“Pushing back on what you feel you need to do. Looking out for yourself in the way you look out for others. Taking breathers when you know you need them. To me this song paints a picture of a suburban Sydney summer in my youth.”

This isn’t Jermango Dreaming’s only 2024 release so far: he also teamed up with fellow Sydney artist ButterBath (who recently assisted Phebe Starr for her Rolling Stone AU/NZ ‘In My Room’ session) on the catchy “My Love,” featured in our May music roundup.

Under his Jermango Dreaming name, Sakr has also put out tracks like “Breeze,” “My Love,” and “La-Dee-Da.” He’s also part of the artist-run collective and label Yeah Nah Yeah and plays in the Hector Gachan and Dives live band.

Jermango Dreaming’s “Project 62” is out now.
