Bean Magazine sound ready to spring forward into a new season on their latest single, “Old or Young.”
The upbeat indie-rock track blends sunny guitar strums with a sense of emotional transition, much like a chrysalis becoming a butterfly.
“Am I old or young, or sprung?” questions frontman Henry Creamer, who is joined in the band by Gabrielle Beiers (drums) and Seb Baren (bass) rounding out the trio.
Their EP, In the Shade, drops on September 19th, featuring “Old Or Young” along with recent singles “Chicken” and “3.”
“We’ve been sitting on this body of work for In the Shade for a while now and are so excited for it to see the light of day,” says Baren.
“When we brought these songs to our producer, Sam over a year ago he immediately expressed similar levels of excitement. ‘Old or Young’ particularly feels nostalgic to us and delivers an immense feeling of home. The EP as a whole encompasses everything we have been as a band since the beginning and we want everyone to love it just as much as we do.”
Bean Magazine have also signed with Purple Phase, a joint venture with Warner Music Australia.
“We feel so lucky to be given this opportunity. It’s been a dream we’ve all shared from the beginning to secure our first record deal, and the experience so far has been nothing short of gorgeous. Flying to Sydney and meeting the team from Purple Phase and from Warner Music didn’t even feel real. I even got to try my first ever oyster!” says Baren of the signing.
The band is currently on tour with Rum Jungle and will soon hit BIGSOUND in Brisbane. They’ll then join The Rubens for a national tour in September and October.
With a solid reputation in Brisbane, Bean Magazine have headlined sold-out shows at venues like The Brightside, Felons Barrel Hall, and The Outpost, and opened for bands like Ball Park Music.
