Thelma Plum, the acclaimed Gamilaraay artist, has officially announced her highly anticipated second studio album, I’m Sorry, Now Say It Back, which is set for release on Friday, October 18th.
The forthcoming album marks her return after the era-defining debut Better in Blak in 2019.
Written and recorded across Brisbane, Byron Bay, London, Sydney, and Melbourne, I’m Sorry, Now Say It Back is a deeply personal project for Plum.
Reflecting on the album’s creation, she shared, “This record has been a long time in the making. It was created with love, heartache, forgiveness, and care in mind. It’s personal and kind of like I’m sharing pages from my diary with you, but it’s time for it to fly free. I’m excited to let these songs go out into the world and see what they mean to others.”
Exploring themes of nostalgia, beauty, desolation, and coming of age, the album continues Plum’s rich tradition of intimate storytelling. Her debut album, Better in Blak, was a major success, earning seven ARIA nominations and featuring three platinum singles, including the powerful title track, “Better in Blak,” which made history by becoming the highest-ranking song by an Indigenous artist in the Triple J Hottest 100.
To coincide with the album announcement, Plum has released a new single titled “Freckles,” the third taste of the upcoming album following “Nobody’s Baby” and “We Don’t Talk About It.”
Describing the new track, Plum said, “‘Freckles’ is a love song about someone who truly sees all parts of you. To be loved in that way by someone is, to me, so incredibly wonderful.”
In the lead-up to the album’s release, Plum will take the stage at triple j’s One Night Stand in Warrnambool and will also perform a series of shows in Far North Queensland in early October. Her live band will feature guitarist Pete Covington, bassist Monnie Sottile (formerly of Sweater Curse), and drummer Dan Williams of Art vs. Science.
