The Avalanches introduced Jamie xx to “new ways of making music” — and they’re now joining him for a new song. On Tuesday, Jamie xx released “All You Children,” featuring the Australian electronic music group, from his upcoming LP In Waves.
“All you children gather ‘round/We will dance and we will whirl,” declares a God-like voice on the dance track. “All you children gather ‘round/We will dance together.”
The new single — which Jamie xx has been teasing on the road — follows the musician-producer’s collaboration with Robyn for the single “Life,” set to be featured on his upcoming second album, out Sept. 20.
“The Avalanches have always been an inspiration for me,” Jamie xx said in a statement. “Their sample technique and how they piece together different sounds is incredible and collaborating on a track with them has showed me new ways of making music.”
“We’re so excited about the release of this track with Jamie,” added the group in a statement. “We hope you love it as much as we do.”
“All You Children” also marks Jamie and the Avalanches’ second collaboration — Jamie joined the group and Neneh Cherry on “Wherever You Go” in 2020.
Along with the Robyn and Avalanches collabs, Jamie’s In Waves will feature artists such as Honey Dijon, John Glacier, and even his the xx bandmates Oliver Sim and Romy on “Waited All Day.”
The xx members reunited onstage at Glastonbury last month for the first time since July 2018, debuting the track during Jamie xx’s set. They also performed their rendition of Candi Staton’s “You Got the Love.”
