Lisa makes it clear she’s a legend with her new latest single “Rockstar.” The upbeat track is her first solo release outside of Blackpink since she appeared on 2021’s “SG,” which also featured Ozuna, DJ Snake and Megan Thee Stallion.
On the clubby single, the rapper reaffirms her power with the boastful lyrics and across line, Lisa makes it clear she is the rockstar in question. “Gold teeth sitting on the dash/ She a rockstar,” she states on the chorus. “Make your favorite singer wanna rap baby lala.” The song was produced by Ryan Tedder and Sam Homaee.
Since 2016, Lisa and the rest of Blackpink have broken numerous records as one of the biggest pop groups in the world. Last year, they became the first K-pop girl group to headline Coachella. All four members have released solo albums, with Lisa debuting Lalisa in 2021. She signed a solo deal with RCA earlier this year, and also announced the formation of her new management company LLOUD Co. Every member of Blackpink decided to not re-sign with the group’s label YG as soloists, allowing them more control over their careers outside of Blackpink. “Rockstar” is Lisa’s first official single under this new partnership.
In a 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, Lisa talked about her big ambitions and all the things she wants to achieve in her career. “I respect everyone’s roles within Blackpink,” she said. “I don’t want to break this image; I want to keep doing what I do within Blackpink. But personally, I have so many things I want to try. I love photography, I want to try acting, and more.”
Lisa has not yet indicated if “Rockstar” will lead a new solo album. Outside of music, she will make her acting debut in season three of HBO’s lauded, award-winning series The White Lotus.
