In the ever-evolving indie music landscape, Joan & The Giants have emerged as a force to be reckoned with, and 2024 is shaping up to be their most triumphant year yet.
Following the success of their recent hit single “Beg” and a stellar 2023 that saw them take the stage at BIGSOUND, support hometown heroes Eskimo Joe and dominate the WA Music Awards – where they scooped seven nominations and took home the wins for Best Alternative/Indie Act, Best Single (“Cool Kid”) and Best Music Video (“Cool Kid”) -the Perth-based quartet is gearing up for an encore that promises to be nothing short of spectacular.
Joan & The Giants will kick off their biggest year yet with the announcement that they will be supporting US pop sensation P!nk alongside Tones and I at Perth’s Optus Stadium on March 1st and 2nd.
Frontwoman Grace Newton-Wordsworth shared the band’s overwhelming excitement at the news.
“This is genuinely a dream come true for us, we are just completely overjoyed and so grateful for this opportunity,” she said. “it feels like my wildest dream come true to be supporting an artist who has soundtracked countless moments of my childhood, teens and now adulthood.”
The band’s admiration for P!nk goes beyond a career milestone. Growing up on a farm, P!nk’s rebellious energy provided the soundtrack to Newton-Wordsworth’s carefree childhood, she said.
“P!nk has inspired me as a singer and performer since I was six years old, when I got my first So Fresh! Summer Hits CD for Christmas,” she said. “We’ve listened to P!nk’s music our entire lives. From weddings, to birthdays, to funerals and everything in between; she’s been one of those artists that has soundtracked our coming of age.”
To add to the anticipation of their upcoming ‘Summer Carnival’ stadium support – and with some more news yet to be announced – Joan & The Giants are dropping another perfectly themed sonic gem, “Good Time,” on Thursday, January 18th.
“Good Time” immerses listeners in a dreamy soundscape adorned with layers of flourishing guitars and a full-bodied bass, providing the perfect backdrop for Newton-Wordsworth’s captivating vocals. The lyrics promise to evoke that nostalgic rush of first love and the carefree vibes of late-night drives and moonlit ocean dips, making it a quintessential summer playlist addition.
“’Good Time’ is such an upbeat, fun song, and it definitely feels like a soundtrack to accompany the good times we’ve been having as of late,” Newton-Wordsworth shared.
The song, written in a spirited 30-minute jam session, encapsulates the camaraderie and joy within the band right now.
“It’s really nice to have a break from depressing heartbreak songs and feel a bit better about life in general after going through some pretty tough times in the last year,” Newton-Wordsworth said. With the band on an undeniable high, “Good Time” serves as the perfect anthem for Joan & The Giants as they head in to 2024.
