This year marks three years since Disney+ launched into the world, providing lovers of top-class entertainment with a chance to expand their horizons on an exponential rate.
Since its inception in November of 2019, Disney+ has become renowned for its variety and wide-ranging scope of content, boasting numerous music shows and documentaries, feature length films, and countless beloved TV series.
However, in addition to all the classics you might expect from a service such as this, Disney+ also boasts a few unexpected gems which might take you by surprise when you stumble upon them.
In honour of the release of Danny Boyle’s new Sex Pistols miniseries, Pistol, we’ve decided to take a well-earned look back at the three miniseries you might not expect to find over on Disney + that you can watch now.
Pistol
As you might expect, the top of this list goes to none other than the nascent series Pistol. Adapted from the autobiography of Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, his emotional and at times hear-breaking journey takes the viewer deep into the inner workings of the band, showing not just a group of punk-rock pioneers, but a jaded group of creatives with an ultimately successful desire to change the world they live in.
Helmed by iconic director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Yesterday, Slumdog Millionaire), the six-part series is a masterful piece of cinema, featuring a gritty look into the life and times of one of the world’s biggest and most iconic punk outfits. Unflinching and uncompromising, it’s on track to be one of the year’s biggest and most revered releases.
The six-part series makes its premiere on Tuesday, May 31st. If you’re not yet signed up to Disney+, you can catch all the anarchistic glory of Pistol by heading to their official website and signing up for a membership

Pam & Tommy
For those who lived through the era, the early days of the mainstream internet can be divided into two era: before the Pam & Tommy sex tape, and after the Pam & Tommy sex tape. Yes, focusing around the now-infamous recording of intimacy between actress and model Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, Pam & Tommy looks into this iconic piece of pop culture, the people involved, the aftermath, and how it changed the very world we live in.
Featuring Lily James and Anderson and Sebastian Stan as Lee, the series features a few special guests (including Seth Rogen, Andrew Dice Clay, and Jason Mantzoukas) who help to underline just how monumentally iconic a seemingly-innocent piece of homemade cinema was, and how its impact still resonates to this very day. The Dropout
In early 2019, much of the world was hooked on Rebecca Jarvis’ podcast, The Dropout. Telling the tale of Elizabeth Holmes and her now-defunct company Theranos, the series focuses on Holmes’ rise to becoming the world’s youngest female self-made billionaire, and her immense fall from grace that would occur in 2018.
Fast forward to 2022, and The Dropout made its premiere earlier this year as an eight-part miniseries. Featuring Oscar nominee Amanda Seyfried as Holmes, The Dropout is a star-studded affair (featuring Stephen Fry, Dylan Minnette, William H. Macy, and Lauie Metcalf, just to name a small few) which brings the iconic podcast to the small screen. Already one of the year’s top series, there’s no denying just how popular The Dropout is set to be. Watch the series now here.
