Australian drill pioneers ONEFOUR have returned with their latest track, “CAP”, alongside a thrilling music video.
After becoming the most discussed collective in the country’s rap scene, their new single is the Mount Druitt group’s response to all the talk: we are above the noise, because all you do is CAP, they want their critics to know.
Following his release from jail and the debut of his first solo single, “Out of Sight”, YP returns to the lineup on “CAP”, a track that combines classic drill energy with an honest lyrical reckoning with the group’s growth over the last few years.
Produced by Sid Mallick and 99hurts, “CAP” sees ONEFOUR take aim at the rest of the Australian rap scene: “In Aus, we had no one to look up to so we said, safe, we’ll just pave the way / Most the rappers got left in the past because they all sound the same,” Jemz raps. It’s a bold statement from ONEFOUR, a message that Australian drill is definitely still thriving.
The accompanying music video was directed by ONEFOUR alongside Matt Wilson and sees the group laughing at the people who try to draw them into petty arguments; it’s not a direct message to anyone specific, but rather an important reminder to simply focus on yourself instead of trying to profit off the success of other people.
After first making waves with 2019 singles like “The Message” and “Spot the Difference” and gaining added prominence through their collaborations with The Kid LAROI and A$AP Ferg, it’s been two years since ONEFOUR cemented their place at the pinnacle of Australian rap with Against All Odds. Their debut EP peaked at number seven on the ARIA Albums Chart and number eight on the NZ Albums Chart.
