The legendary Pixies are set to return to Australia this year, close to three years since COVID forced them to abandon their last visit to the country.
It was back in 2019 that the Pixies announced their latest tour of Australia, revealing they’d be bringing their ‘Come On Pilgrim… It’s Surfer Rosa’ to the country, where they would perform their first two releases in full.
Though they did manage to get a few dates in back in March of 2020, the onset of both COVID and related restrictions saw the band forced to postpone their remaining dates.
“Out of caution for current public health concerns, Pixies are postponing the remaining Australian shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Perth,” the group explained at the time. “This was an extremely difficult decision, but the well-being of our fans is always our top priority.”
Now, they’ve announced their long-awaited return, with plans to effectively pick up where they left off.
Set to take place in December of 2022, the Pixies will hit up Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, and Melbourne, with the entirety of Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa being performed in their entirety at all but the latter. Melbourne however will receive a “brand new set” featuring songs from across their catalogue, including “some oldies and some brand new tracks”.
The Pixies’ most recent album, Beneath the Eyrie, was released back in 2019, though the group recently returned earlier this month with new single, “Human Crime”. There’s no word yet as to whether this song will feature on a new record or if it will remain a standalone single.
