Sydney’s Bad Moon Born have offered up a pair of stunning tracks for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home following a couple of years which have seen live shows become a rarity.
Forming in 2016 and having released a stellar run of tracks across the last couple of years as part of their ‘The Heart From The Hollow’ series, it was just last month that Bad Moon Morn unveiled their latest single, the exceptional “Light Leaves the Day”.
A track that touches on some deeply personal topics, vocalist Jordan Von Grae explains that it’s a song that was written following several years spent battle chronic alcoholism and drug abuse.
“The initial clarity that came with sobriety brought several unaddressed mental health issues to the forefront, leaving me to confront them unaided through means of self-medication,” he explained. “It forced me into a terrifying loop of introspection which, through therapy and the support of my loved ones, ultimately resulted in a newfound desire to commit to my personal development, and change my behaviour.
“The song was written at a time when I was new to this change and whilst I was hopeful for the future, I was terrified that my efforts wouldn’t be enough to save the relationships I’d damaged throughout this time. 18 months on, I can safely say that committing to sobriety has been the best decision I’ve ever made.”
A truly powerful song, Bad Moon Born have given fans a taste of what it sounds like in a live setting for their recent ‘In My Room’ performance. Recoding their session at BMB Studios in Homebush, the group kick things off with a powerful rendition of the single, before dipping back into a cut from 2021.
Delivering an acoustic version of last year’s “Fallout”, such a gorgeous performance almost seems at odds with the posters of harder bands such as Architects and Every Time I Die behind them, but such is the power of Bad Moon Born that you have to know how to go hard to deliver something as heartfelt as this.
