As Fanny Lumsden slowly tends towards the two-year anniversary of her stellar ARIA Award-winning album, Fallow, the acclaimed country musician has unveiled the video for one of the album’s high points, “Tidy Town”.
Introducing the viewer to a handful of unique characters, the clip for “Tidy Town” featured the directorial talents of Lumsden and Dan Stanley Freeman as they filmed within New South Wales’ Snowy Valleys. Featuring local, hard-working businesses that have had it tough as they persevered through fires, floods, and a pandemic, it serves as not only a testament to the tenacity of the characters within the video, but also the locals themselves.
“‘Tidy Town’ is a song about the classic tale of ‘don’t be too quick to judge’, and how cliches always seem to cloud our view of the truth, and although they have their place there is always more to the story,” Lumsden explains.
“We wanted to capture this in the ‘Tidy Town’ clip, by almost making the visuals confusing,” she adds. “38 weeks pregnant, in a wedding dress, driving a B Double is not really what you expect, but it really paints the picture of there clearly being more to the story, so you have to trust and go with it.”
As Lumsden says in the chorus itself; “This tidy town it’s got nothing to hide, but there’s more than meets the eye.”
The video for “Tidy Town” arrives following a rather bittersweet period for Lumsden. While Fallow found itself winning five Golden Guitar awards back in January (and nabbed a nomination for the video for “Dig” at next year’s awards), a forced break in the Northern Territory due to lockdown and border closures resulted in a very long ’round-the-country road trip back home (with caravan in tow) – all the while being heavily pregnant.
Needless to say, 2022 will not only be welcomed with open arms due to the cautious optimism it hopes to provide, but also due to the large run of tour dates that Lumsden will be embarking on from January. Full tour details are available below.
