Moscow’s Stone Submarines have graced us with their blissful psychedelia for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home following a year which has seen live shows become a rarity.
If you’re a fan of ethereal psychedelic rock, Moscow might not quite be the first place you decide to check out, yet Stone Submarines have been turning convention on its head, with their sound being described as sounding “so hazy and dreamy, the warmth of their melodies piercing the frozen depths of [their] cold city”.
Having shared an EP and an album across the last few years, this year has seen the band return with their new single, “Forever Mine”. To celebrate the release of fresh tunes, Stone Submarines were kind enough to donate their time to a special ‘In My Room’ session, with the Russian quartet offering up a mesmerising set full of blissed-out guitars and hazy vocals so powerful that it feels like you’re witnessing a musical revolution.
Kicking things off with the majestic “From Outta Space”, warm synths and delicate guitars descend into a hazy wall of sound, with the vocals of Nick Morozov adding an extra layer of brilliance.
Closing out their set with a lengthy rendition of “Forever Mine”, the group showcase their stunning compositional and performative talent, turning the “dream-soaked reflection on the free-flowing creativity of youth” into a resonating piece of genre-defining psych-rock, and showing the world why Stone Submarines are a name you need to memorise immediately.
