Sydney’s Barley Passable have shared a pair of stunning compositions for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home following a year which has seen live shows become a rarity.
Having made their debut onto the local music scene only comparatively recently, it didn’t take long for Sydney-based duo Barley Passable – which comprises Davy Brown and Kai Ollmann – to start releasing tunes which left listeners spellbound at every turn.
Acclaimed for their masterful creations which show influences of French disco and Euro pop, along with touches of artists such as Air and Jungle, the duo released their debut EP – Hindsight – back in early March. A stunning collection of work which showcases their growth as artists and songwriters, it made sense for the pair to show us what they’re made of with a performance for Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’ series.
Performing from their home studio in Freshwater, the pair kick off their two-song set with a rendition of their EP’s lead single, “Silver”.
“It’s a song about just feeling really good, and we wanted a song that makes us feel really good, and hopefully does the same for you guys as well,” they explain. “It’s about feeling invincible.”
Closing their far-too-short performance with a version of “Turnaround”, Barley Passable show off their immersive performance style, mixing electronic and live instrumentation in a high-energy format, all while providing a heightened sense of emotion and – above all – fun.
