World-beating Melbourne artist G Flip is set to add another chapter in an already-impressive story this weekend, being named as the pre-game entertainment for the upcoming AFLW Grand Final.
Taking place at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, April 17th, G Flip will share a performance of her work as a way to preface the game between the Adelaide Crows and the Brisbane Lions.
“It’s such a privilege and an honour to be playing at the 2021 NAB AFLW Grand Final,” the Collingwood fan explained in a statement accompanying the announcement.
“I’ve been a footy fan since my Dad put a Magpies scarf around my neck as a baby and I haven’t missed a Pies game this season,” she added. “I don’t just like footy, I love footy. This will be one of the highlights of my life, I’m very excited.”
“Australians have been starved of attending live music since the global pandemic began, so we hope to see as many G Flip and football fans secure their seat at the NAB AFLW Grand Final and fill the stadium in celebration of women’s football,” noted AFL Executive General Manager Customer and Commercial Kylie Rogers.
In addition to her performance prior to the game, the weekend’s Grand Final celebrations will also include a performance of the Australian national anthem, and a Welcome to Country which will both be fronted by local names.
G Flip most recently released new music back in January, teaming up with mxmtoon to release the collaborative single “Queen”.
“I was first introduced to her while trying to find ukulele chords to a Khalid song and found her cover on YouTube years ago,” G Flip explained at the time. “She makes awesome music and her voice has such a cruisy timbre to it so I was thrilled to have her jump on ‘Queen’ with me. She is also an avid croc lover and part of the LGBTQIA+ community, so obviously it just made sense!”
