With just under a month to go until the 2021 edition of Yours & Owls kicks off in Wollongong, organisers have announced a last-minute venue change, in addition to a couple of lineup replacements.
Having announced the fact they had received an official go-ahead after the New South Wales Government and the Ministry Of Health approved the festival’s COVID safety plan earlier this month, the April festival has continued to work on their “mega COVID safety play book” to ensure audience safety.
As announced today, this means that the event is now set to take place at the larger Wollongong Dalton Park in order to “accommodate [their] COVID safe footprint”. The new venue is only a slight change from original plans, located “two mins down the road from our spiritual home of Stuart Park”.
Meanwhile, the COVID safety plan also includes the site being split into four seperate zones to reduce risk, with two revolving stages set to be located directly in the middle and patrons set to receive a “perfect view of the main stages from every zone”.
In addition to the venue change, organisers have also revealed a slight lineup change, with current border restrictions meaning that New Zealand artists BENEE and MC Wax Mustang are unable to attend the event. In their place, local acts DOPE LEMON and Nerve have stepped up, joining the bill to fill out what is on track to be one of the largest post-COVID festivals in Australia.
“We want to thank everyone for their patience and support this past year. It’s been one hell of a rollercoaster ride,” explained promoter Ben Tillman. “We are really thankful that we have been given the opportunity to bring you one of the only major festival events in the country since COVID hit. Without the support of our patrons, staff, stakeholders and industry, this would have been an impossible task.
“Our approval is the first step for our industry, we still have a long way to go to get back to the thriving live music scene we once knew. This year’s event is probably one of the most important we have staged, it is the first step in establishing that festivals can be run safely in NSW, so we need our patrons support to help open the door for a return of mass live music gatherings. We are working hard to make this the best experience possible and can’t wait to share it with you.”
