Nick Cave is ready to answer your questions. On an upcoming US solo tour, billed as Conversations With Nick Cave, the singer-songwriter will field questions from the audience about anything and everything — a format he works well with, as his popular Red Hand Files newsletter has shown. As with previous “Conversations” tours, the artist will also perform songs with only his own piano accompanying him.
“Years ago, in a peculiar state of mind, I travelled across the U.S., stepped onto stages in different cities, and fielded questions from the audience,” Cave said in a statement. “It was a strange, almost desperate idea, but those nights became deeply healing for me. I hope the audience felt the same.
“Eight years have passed,” he continued. “The Red Hand Files have grown in reach and stature; the topics of conversation have broadened, and it feels like the right time to return to America, a different America from eight years ago, and bring the Conversations… show back. I’ll have my piano with me, play some songs, and answer questions. What could possibly go wrong?”
Tickets go on sale to the general public on at 10 a.m. local time, Nov. 13. Presales begin Wednesday. Full details are on a bespoke website.
When Cave embarked on his first “Conversations With … ” tour in 2018, the audience’s questions prompted him to open up about some surprising things, at least for the New Yok audience: He wasn’t against people taking cell-phone photos of them, he was open to reuniting with former Bad Seed Blixa Bargeld (the reunion still hasn’t happened), and meeting Johnny Cash was a revelation. He also told the crowd that speaking with them helped him with his grief after the death of his son. “Talking to the audience has actually been extraordinary healing for me,” he said.
