Sir Dave Dobbyn is heading back across the Tasman for a special one-night-only performance at the Sydney Opera House.
The New Zealand music icon will celebrate five decades in the industry with ’50 Years of Sir Dave Dobbyn’, taking over the venue’s concert hall on Sunday, February 14th, 2027.
Presented by Live Nation, the milestone show will mark Dobbyn’s first return to Australia since 2018, bringing together songs from his early days with Th’ Dudes and DD Smash through to his celebrated solo career.
Few artists have left as lasting an impression on New Zealand’s music identity as Dobbyn. Across five decades, he’s delivered some of the country’s most recognisable songs, including “Slice of Heaven”, “Loyal”, “Beside You”, “Welcome Home”, “Whaling”, and “Kingdom Come”.
His career began in the late 1970s with Th’ Dudes, the band he formed alongside school friends, before finding further success fronting DD Smash, whose debut album reached No. 1 in New Zealand during its first week, setting the stage for an equally successful solo career.
Among his many achievements, “Slice of Heaven” spent eight weeks on top of the New Zealand singles chat, while “Loyal” has remained a national favourite, often topping polls of the country’s most beloved songs.
Dobbyn also holds the record for the most APRA Silver Scroll Awards won by a songwriter, recognising his extraordinary contribution to New Zealand songwriting.
His influence extends well beyond the charts. In 2006, he performed “Welcome Home” for war veterans and members of the royal family at the dedication of London’s New Zealand War Memorial. He was later knighted in 2021 for his services to music.
Having released nine studio albums, Dobbyn has continued to perform to audiences across New Zealand. His upcoming Sydney appearance follows a run of sold-out headline shows across his home country.
The Sydney Opera House concert will take place on Sunday, February 14th, 2027. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, November 2nd at 10am AEDT.
Mastercard cardholders and Live Nation members can access pre-sales from Friday, October 20th at 9am AEDT until Monday, November 2nd at 9am AEDT.
