One of the year’s most talked-about documentaries is coming to Australia and New Zealand, with Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s You Can See Everything locking in a cinematic release date.

The film, which has already generated considerable attention for its unprecedented access to disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, follows Holmes in the final weeks before she begins her prison sentence and takes viewers inside a three-year documentary project that proves far from conventional.

Filming began just 34 days before Holmes was due to report to prison, after she agreed to let Fielder and Oppenheim document her life. What started as a behind-the-scenes look at one of Silicon Valley’s most notorious figures soon took an unexpected turn, with the filmmakers describing the project as a “mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss.”

The local release follows the film’s surprise debut at the Telluride Film Festival in September, where it quickly became a talking point for its unconventional storytelling and the filmmakers’ access to Holmes.

Check out the trailer below.

Holmes rose to prominence after founding blood-testing startup Theranos in 2003, promising technology capable of performing multiple medical tests using just a few drops of blood. Once hailed as one of Silicon Valley’s most promising entrepreneurs, her reputation unravelled when investigations exposed serious flaws in the company’s technology and business practices.

In 2022, she was convicted on four counts of fraud and conspiracy relating to investors and sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison. Holmes has continued to maintain her innocence.

You Can See Everything is the latest screen project to revisit the Theranos scandal, following Hulu’s acclaimed drama The Dropout, which starred Amanda Seyfried as Holmes. Unlike previous dramatisations, however, You Can See Everything features Holmes herself.

You Can See Everything hits Australian and New Zealand cinemas on November 12th.
