Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has renewed calls for his beloved Fremantle Dockers to dump their sponsor during the band’s current US tour.
As reported by WA Today, the Perth band were performing in Denver last week, where Parker, the team’s number one ticket holder, wore a Dockers jersey with the logo of oil and gas company Woodside covered by black tape.
Woodside has been a sponsor of the Dockers since 2010 and, in 2024, renewed a deal to stay on until at least 2027.
Parker isn’t the first to protest the team’s sponsor. A petition was reportedly signed by 8,000 people calling for Woodside’s removal in 2023, while Independent Senator and Wallabies legend David Pocock also backed calls for the company to be dumped.
Clare Lagan, the founder of Get Off My Chest – who have also previously protested Woodside’s sponsorship, praised Parker’s move,
“Woodside has long been one of Australia’s most controversial companies and one of sport’s most controversial sponsors,” she said.
“We commend Kevin Parker and call on the Fremantle Football Club to end their partnership with Australia’s largest fossil fuel company.

“Kevin Parker’s statement is clear: this is not something Freo fans can support.
“Woodside’s sponsorships are not donations, they are distractions. They undermine community efforts to hold the gas industry accountable and to ensure they pay us what they owe us, an estimated $17 billion a year.”
