Three major names from ’90s alternative rock are heading to Australia next March, with Magic Dirt joining them for a ten-date run.
Some songs don’t really belong to a decade. They just keep finding new generations.
LOOKOUT is leaning heavily into that idea in 2027, bringing together +LIVE+, Stone Temple Pilots and 4 Non Blondes for an Australian run next March, with Australian alternative rock favourites Magic Dirt joining the bill.
It’s a lineup built around a period when alternative rock didn’t just sit on the fringes of popular culture — it took over.
For +LIVE+, that meant albums like Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi, and songs including “Lightning Crashes”, “I Alone” and “All Over You”. The band have sold more than 23 million albums worldwide, with Throwing Copper becoming one of the defining rock releases of the 1990s.
Stone Temple Pilots arrive with an equally formidable catalogue. Their 1992 debut Core introduced the world to “Plush”, “Sex Type Thing” and “Wicked Garden”, beginning a run that would ultimately see the band sell more than 70 million albums worldwide.
Then there’s 4 Non Blondes.
Led by Linda Perry, the band’s “What’s Up?” became one of the decade’s most instantly recognisable songs. Perry would go on to become one of modern pop’s most influential songwriters and producers, working with artists including P!nk, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Adele and Miley Cyrus.
Seeing her return to the stage with 4 Non Blondes makes LOOKOUT considerably more than another trip down the nostalgia circuit.
And representing Australia is Magic Dirt, the Geelong-born band whose noisy, uncompromising take on alternative rock made them one of the country’s defining acts of the same era.
LOOKOUT will take the four acts around the country across ten shows, beginning at Adelaide Entertainment Centre on March 6th before travelling through Bendigo, Canberra, Melbourne, Mornington, Wollongong, Sydney, the Hunter Valley, Broadbeach and Brisbane.
For anyone who lived through alternative rock’s commercial explosion, the appeal is obvious.
For everyone who didn’t, this might be the closest thing to experiencing it in real time.
