Hayden Panettiere’s rep said there was “much more” to the story surrounding the actress’ sudden death and called out those fuelling “gossip and speculation” in a new statement shared with Us.
The statement did not single out any rumours in particular, but suggested they were coming from people “not close to Hayden” and who know “very little” about what happened. “It is deeply disrespectful to her memory and to those who knew and loved her and are actively grieving this tremendous loss,” the rep said.
Panettiere died Aug. 16 at the age of 36. An exact cause of death still hasn’t been released, though in previously released dispatch audio, authorities referred to an “overdose” and “cardiac arrest.” The investigation so far has not turned up any signs of “foul play or suspicious circumstances,” while an initial autopsy found “no signs of trauma” that would’ve resulted in her death.
Amid the swirl of rumours, Panettiere’s rep called on those who might have “legitimate information that could be helpful” to contact law enforcement instead of “turning to social media to speculate publicly about something you do not fully understand.”
“Hayden’s death remains under investigation and it is important to allow that investigation to proceed,” the statement read. “As has been publicly reported, police confirmed there were no signs of foul play. Out of respect for Hayden’s loved ones and the ongoing investigation, there will be no further comment at this time.”
